MAKHACHKALA, July 16 – RIA "Dagestan". World freestyle wrestling medalist Shamil Mamedov, now representing Bulgaria, claimed gold in the 65 kg category at the international ranking tournament in Budapest. Dagestan native dominated all five of his bouts, finishing each early with a cumulative score of 53:1, including a decisive 12:0 victory over Iran’s Abbas Ebrahimzadeh in the final.
He was one of two Dagestani wrestlers to reach the podium; Murad Kuramagomedov, competing for Hungary, won bronze in the 74 kg division. Day two in Budapest sees more Dagestani athletes chasing medals.
