The cargo transshipment figures for the first 4 months of 2025 at Makhachkala commercial seaport reached 1 million tons, which is 9.5% less than in the corresponding period of 2024, the Association of Commercial Ports reports.

This decline in cargo handling is not unique to Makhachkala port, but rather a trend across ports in the Caspian region, with a drop of 34% in total cargo transshipped, amounting to 2.2 million tons. The most significant decrease was observed in Astrakhan, with a decline of 38.3% compared to the previous year.
