Dagestan to expand capacity of its largest hydroelectric power plants

Dagestan authorities plan to modernize and expand the capacity of several key energy facilities as part of the program for the development of the Russian electric power system.

For example, the Chirkey Hydroelectric Power Plant will see an increase of 100 megawatts in capacity. These works are scheduled to be conducted from 2025 to 2027.

Besides, the RusHydro JSC plans to modernize the Chiryurt Hydroelectric Power Cascade with an 8-megawatts increase in capacity by 2028. "Dagestan needs to improve its reliability of electricity supply urgently, and the Republic has already made significant progress in this area in recent years, but there is more work to be done" - Marat Shikhaliev, the regional Minster of Energy and Tariff Regulation of the Republic of Dagestan said.
