Dagestan authorities have initiated the process of transforming the republican state-owned media. According to Rashid Akavov, the government Information Policy Department head, this reformatting process has commenced in 2025, aiming to enhance efficiency and ensure compliance with contemporary standards.

The initial steps towards this transformation have already been taken, with the modernization of outlets in national languages in 2024 serving as a foundation for future changes, Akavov noted.

The forthcoming reform is expected to impact the structure, content strategy and technological infrastructure of the media, with a particular focus on digitalization of these platforms. The specifics of this project, including its implementation stages and funding sources, are currently undergoing refinement.

Experts attribute this initiative to the nationwide trend of modernizing media infrastructure. In the Republic of Dagestan, where more than 30 percent of the population regularly engages with content in their mother language, preserving the ethnic and cultural component in the revamped media remains a top priority. The aim of this reform is to bolster the influence of state-run media in shaping the information landscape of the region while preserving their distinct multilingual character.
