Daghestani judoists win two medals at the Russian championship

Makhachkala, March 12, 2014. Two Daghestani judo wrestlers acting for Russian national team obtained bronze medals at the Russian judo championship in Yekaterinburg. More than 350 athletes, from 60 Russian regions born in 1996-1997, participated in the championship.
The competition took place on 7 - 10 March. A sportsman Gamzat Zairbekov in the weight category up to 55 kg gained a bronze award. In his first fight, a trainee of judo coaches Haybula Cheerov and Ahmed Magomedov surpassed Samvel Petrosyan. In the battle against the champion Andrei Surnirnym, Gamzat gained a victory. In the quarterfinals Daghestani athlete defeated Alexander Golovko and provided a place in the semifinals.
Another Daghestani judoka, a silver medalist of the European junior championship in 2012, Gamzat Zurgaraev also took the third place. In the first tournament, the athlete (up to 73 kg) defeated Alexei Pantus and Maxim Simonov. In the quarterfinals, Zurgaraev gained a victory over the Chechen sportsman Yakub Tepsaev, but in the semifinals lost to another winner of the European Youth Olympic Festival, the Ingush judoist Uruskhan- Bek Balaev. In the fight for the third place, a trainee of Dzhabrail Magomedov defeated another Ingush judoka Musa Kodzoev.
