MAKHACHKALA, February 13 – RIA “Dagestan”. Delivery of high-tech equipment for the grain terminal under construction at Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port is scheduled for June 2026. Once completed at the end of 2028, the terminal is expected to become the largest grain handling facility on the Caspian Sea, with storage capacity for 100,000 tons of grain and an annual transshipment capacity of up to 1.5 million tons. The equipment will be supplied from China.
As of early 2025, the port operated 12 berths, three dry cargo terminals, and four auxiliary fleet vessels, with total throughput capacity of 7.28 million tons (5.5 million tons for liquid cargo and 1.78 million tons for dry cargo). By the end of 2025, transshipment volumes for liquid and dry bulk cargo increased by 13% year-on-year, reaching 3.22 million tons. Notable growth was recorded in cement shipments (+31%) and grain transshipment (+17%).
