MAKHACHKALA, February 11 – RIA “Dagestan”. In 2025, Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port solidified its status as the leading port in the Caspian basin, reporting a 13% increase in cargo turnover, reaching 3.22 million tons. This growth was driven by significant rise in key commodity shipments: cement transshipment surged by 31%, while grain volumes grew by 17%. According to Director General Dzhamal Aliyev, these figures reflect not only the rising regional demand but also the port’s expanding role in national logistics networks.

Two major investment projects are currently underway. The first is the construction of a new grain terminal with an annual capacity of up to 1.5 million tons, with equipment scheduled for delivery in June. The second involves the modernization of the container terminal, which will increase its annual throughput to 50,000 TEU.

Additionally, plans have been finalized for a Dry Port multimodal logistics complex, designed to integrate container handling, warehousing, and vehicle parking in order to provide end-to-end logistics services. As to Aliyev, these developments are of strategic importance for both Dagestan and Russia, as they are expected to strengthen the republic’s position in the Caspian region and substantially increase transit flows along international transport corridors.
