Comprehensive Exhibition Explores Women's Roles in Dagestan's History from Ancient to Modern Times

MAKHACHKALA, March 7 – RIA "Dagestan". The exhibition "Images of Women in the Cultural Space of Dagestan: From Origins to Modernity" has opened at "Dagestan Aul" museum, presenting a comprehensive exploration of women's roles and representations throughout the region's history.

Implemented jointly with the Cultural, Historical, Research and Educational Center "Tarikh XXI Century" and supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, the exhibition features over 100 panels showcasing ancient petroglyphs, archaeological artifacts, carved items depicting women and documentation of the traditional practice of female tattooing in Dagestan.

For the first time, medieval written sources highlighting women's contributions to the construction of mosques and wells, along with women's personal letters as historical documents, are presented extensively. The exhibition also includes 19th-century photographs of Dagestani women and paintings by pre-revolutionary Russian artists portraying mountain women.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Culture Murad Gadzhiev, Chairman of the Union of Artists Kurbanali Magomedov and other cultural figures. The exhibition will remain open to the public until April 5.
