MOSCOW, August 14 – RIA "Dagestan". Sergey Karandashov's documentary On the Edge. From a Road Diary, which tells the story of Dagestani intensive care physician Ilyas Sharbuzov, has been selected for the main competition of the XII International Documentary Film Festival “Doker”.
The festival features independent documentary cinema from around the world, spanning genres from newsreels and popular science films to mockumentaries and experimental works. This year, the event runs from September 3 to 13 in Moscow and includes more than 80 documentaries from 30 countries.
The film portrays a doctor from Dagestan who feels compelled to be wherever emergency help is needed. His wife, also a doctor, struggles at times but understands her husband's sense of duty. Their lives take a difficult turn, however, when Ilyas is assigned to a military hospital in a combat zone.
The Russian documentary is one of 12 films in the main competition, joined by works from directors in India, Israel, France, the Netherlands and other countries. Screenings will be held at the "Oktyabr" cinema centre and the "Zotov" Center.
The main competition jury is headed by director and producer Sergey Miroshnichenko, who will be joined by Kenyan producer Zippora Kimundu and Canadian cinematographer and director Kyle Sandilands. The jury will award the Grand Prix along with prizes for best directing, cinematography, editing and sound.
