The farmers in Dagestan gear up for a significant expansion of their black cumin cultivation efforts, scheduled to commence in early March. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the region's agricultural development. The cultivation of black cumin in Dagestan can be traced back to 2024, when it was pioneered by Zulkipli Ramazanov. The man first planted the seeds in the region laying the groundwork for this promising crop.
In 2025, the cultivation area will be expanded from 5 to 20 hectares, the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Food reports. This expansion, the Ministry official says, is a testament to the success of farmer’s initiative. By cultivating black cumin, Dagestani farmers aim to establish a competitive oil production sector, challenging the dominance of products from India and Ethiopia in the market.
