Makhachkala, July 17, 2014. Daghestan minister of agriculture and food supply Battal Battalov met with President of the Spanish «PROTEVI» company Juan Carlos Banegas, a source in the ministry told RIA "Daghestan".
The 2 delegations discussed cooperation prospects in developing agriculture Daghestan, in particular, building modern greenhouses and nursery gardens in Daghestan for growing seedlings on Spanish technology.
Juan Carlos Banegas spoke about the terms of setting up a modern greenhouse complex equipped with the latest equipment and innovative technical systems using advanced scientific technology for growing vegetables used by greenhouse businesses of highly developed agricultural countries: Spain, Holland, France, Finland, Israel, and Turkey.
"Protected horticulture is a dynamic industry, one of the most promising agricultural areas in Daghestan", Daghestan minister said.
"The priority Daghestan development project "Effective agriculture" outlines the need for its development. Daghestan traditionally demonstrates high rates in vegetable production (more than 1 million tons per year), but to improve competitiveness and keep on developing, we need to use modern technology. In 2013, we built over 10 hectares of modern greenhouses. Today, 30 more hectares are under construction. Now, we plan to implement a pilot greenhouse complex project meeting all modern requirements."
Battalov also pointed out the urgency of building a nursery farm for growing seedlings of traditional Daghestan species of trees as well as intensive ones. The planting material produced in the nursery garden can later be supplied to Daghestan and Russian consumers.
The Spanish delegation got really interested in building the nursery farm. Following the meeting, participants decided to more thoroughly study their ideas.
