Dagestan and Uzbekistan establish three key areas for cooperation

The meeting of the local business community with the official delegation of Uzbekistan has taken place today, July 22, in Makhachkala. The prime minister of Dagestan Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, the Khokim of Bukhara region Botir Zaripov, the heads of a number of regional agencies and business communities attended the event. The representatives of textile, industrial, construction, tourism and other industries of Uzbekistan took part in the event.

Abdulmuslimov recalled that the previous day, the guests had an opportunity to visit the production facilities of several enterprises in the republic and visit Derbent. Abdulmuslimov also reminded that the parties signed a memorandum on cooperation in the sphere of tourism. The republics will exchange information in the sphere of tourism, including legislative and other normative legal acts, best practices and experience in improving the quality of tourism services, experience in regulating the activities of organizations in the sphere of tourism.

Huseyn Huseynov, the Head of the Agency for Entrepreneurship and Investments of Dagestan, shared details about cooperation and plans for developing trade and economic relations. According to him, Uzbekistan is now Russia's thirteenth partner in terms of trade turnover. Besides, Huseynov noted that export volumes increased by almost 1.5% in 2023, compared to the previous year.

"Dagestan also has long-standing and strong export ties with Uzbekistan. In 2023, glass and glass products, boilers, equipment and mechanical devices, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, fish, fruits and nuts, wood products, electrical machinery and equipment were exported" - Huseynov underlined.

In turn, the representatives of companies from Bukhara region displayed readiness to cooperate in the textile industry: "There are 10 industrial textile clusters concentrated in the country, engaged in sowing cotton and the production of finished goods. We cooperate with major world clothing brands and offer Dagestan to become a partner and get access to the new markets".

Besides, plans for organizing bilateral business missions were discussed during the meeting. In 2024, according to Dagestan Export Support Center, a business mission to Uzbekistan (Tashkent) and two reverse visits of business delegations are planned. Separately, the format of the meeting included speeches by representatives of business communities (Opora Rossii, etc.) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Dagestan.
