In 2024, a significant number of Russian citizens made their choice for domestic travel, the Aviasales ticketing service reports. The study identifies the top ten most sought-after destinations, encompassing Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi and Makhachkala among others.
Domestic air travel accounted for a remarkable 73% of total flight activity, albeit with an increase in international travel compared to the preceding year, where domestic destinations accounted for an even higher 77% of bookings in 2022.
Similar to the trends observed in 2023, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi continue to dominate the list, accounting for a combined 48% of all bookings. Four percent each were allocated to Makhachkala, Mineralnye Vody, and Kaliningrad while Ekaterinburg, Kazan, Ufa and Samara garnered three percent each.
Notably, Arkhangelsk, Yakutsk and Kemerovo have become the fastest-growing destinations in terms of bookings.
The most rapidly expanding outbound destination this year was Japan, which simplified the process of obtaining a tourist visa for the Russians. The number of bookings increased in 3.5 times compared to the last year. The country now ranks among the top 20 most sought-after destinations for the Russian solo travelers, AviaSales reports.
