The Regional Department of Rospotrebnadzor (the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) has announced that children between the ages of three months and fourteen years are eligible for vaccination, regardless of their previous vaccination history. The goal is to cover at least ninety-five percent of the child population in Dagestan.
The vaccination campaign will be conducted in two phases: from April 7th to 11th and from May 12th to 16th this year. The immunization will be performed using both live oral and inactivated poliovirus vaccines.
Polio is a viral infection that affects the central nervous system, primarily the spinal cord. It is a serious disease that can lead to permanent paralysis. Polio often presents itself as an intestinal or respiratory infection.
