SAINT PETERSBURG, April 27 – RIA "Dagestan." At a meeting of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation, Zaur Askenderov, Chairman of the People's Assembly of Dagestan, presented a series of proposals aimed at fostering interethnic dialogue and reinforcing family values across Russian regions.
Askenderov proposed establishing a permanent working group under the Council of Legislators to facilitate the exchange of best regional practices in interethnic relations. He also introduced an initiative to hold an All-Russian Forum for legislators and deputies of local representative bodies, creating a comprehensive platform to discuss implementation of state national policy.
The Speaker placed particular emphasis on education and upbringing, proposing that discussions of family values be incorporated into the extracurricular program "Conversations About What Matters." "First and foremost, the family teaches respect for other peoples and cultures" - Askenderov stated.
In his report titled "Dagestani Path to Unity: Relying on Traditions, Respect for the Law and Intergenerational Connection" Askenderov highlighted Dagestan as "a model of a great country in miniature" where more than 30 indigenous ethnic groups and over 100 languages coexist in harmony. "Mosques, churches and synagogues stand side by side, while children of different nationalities and faiths study together in the same classrooms. Our unity has stood the test of time: from victories over Tamerlane to the defeat of international terrorists in 1999" - the top official noted.
Askenderov also expressed gratitude to the federal government and other Russian regions for their support during recent natural disasters in the republic. "In moments like these, it becomes clear that the greatest strength lies in the people. We feel the brotherly support of Russia's regions" he said, extending thanks to President Vladimir Putin for personal attention to recovery efforts following the devastating rains and landslides.
