In 2024, fishermen in the Caspian Sea harvested a remarkable catch of over 30,000 tons of fish. Sprat dominates the catch, accounting for an impressive 22,500 tons. Sazan, known for its flavorful flesh, came in second with a haul of 1,136 tons, representing a 200-tonne increase compared to the previous year. Herring, on the other hand, claimed the third position with a production of 1,089 tons.

This catch was achieved through the efforts of 20 fishing vessels. It is worth noting that the overall catch in 2023 amounted to a total of 33,600 tons, highlighting the richness of the Caspian's marine resources.

Dagestan fish products are highly sought after in the domestic market, with shipments extending to numerous other regions. The high-quality canned goods, particularly sprat, are particularly valued for their larger size and more substantial flesh content compared to Baltic varieties.
