Within the framework of the “Save Forests” federal project 500 hectares of trees are scheduled to be planted in Dagestan by the end of this year. The preparations for the spring plantings are currently underway. This year, we aim to cover an area of 500 hectare with trees, Vagab Abdulhamidov, Chairman of the regional Forestry Committee says.
The seedlings of pine, elm, ash and other species are being prepared for planting, which will commence in lowland areas and subsequently expand throughout the region. It is worth noting that a significant fire, lasting for four days, was extinguished in Dagestan the day before. The fire, which originated near the village of Khryug in Akhtynski municipal district, resulted in the destruction of 6 hectares of pristine forest. Sergei Melikov, the region governor, has pledged to restore the Khryug forest to its former state.
