A cat has been residing on its owner’s grave in Dagestan for over seven years, a touching story relayed by the BAZA Telegram channel.
The incident commenced in 2018 when local resident Khadija first spotted the cat on the cemetery grounds. It turned out that the animal settled on the grave of its owner, who had been buried a few months earlier.
After hearing the story, Khadija decided to take the cat home. However, when the cat had had enough and regained its strength, it tried to venture out again, coming back to the grave. It kept returning to the site ever since. The locals have affectionately nicknamed the cat " Hachiko" because it keeps returning to the grave despite numerous attempts to help it. Villagers have even provided the cat with food.
However, the outdoor lifestyle has taken its toll on Hachiko’s health, and she is frequently ill, currently suffering from pneumonia, ear and liver problems. Khadija has sought veterinary help and the cat is currently being treated in Makhachkala. It is planned to transport her to St Petersburg for further medical treatment in the future.
