The Russian Ministry of Agriculture has recently launched a new section dedicated to the history of viticulture and wine production in Russia with hashtag #history_wine. According to the federal agency, the earliest vineyards and wineries that can be traced back to pre-Christian times were in Dagestan and the Crimea. In contemporary times, the cultivation of grapes, or the sun berry as it is sometimes referred to, is a rapidly evolving industry not only in Dagestan but throughout Russia.
