Dead Caspian seals have again been found on the coast in Dagestan. The dead animals were discovered by a local resident who was taking a morning jog. As to the man, he counted 10 dead seals. Judging by their condition, the seals were still floating in seawater long after their deaths.
Recall exactly a year ago more than 2,500 dead seals were found on the shore of the Caspian Sea in Dagestan. Specialists have not reached a consensus on what could cause the mass death of red-listed animals. Among the versions are: poisoning by sewage, natural gas emissions and bacterial infections.
The head of the Caspian Environmental Center Zaur Gapizov commented on the new emergency in Dagestan. In his opinion, it is now in December that the seasonal migration of the Caspian seal from the south to the north is underway. "Natural selection is taking place, there may be more dead seals in the near future," Gazipov said.
