Doctors got 35 worms out of man’s eye in Dagestan

Doctors at Bulach Ophthalmological Hospital in Makhachkala managed to save sight of a 55-year-old man by removing 35 worms from his eye. The patient got into the hospital with a collection of worms in his eye, which had reached 12 millimeters in size and were damaging the cornea and the upper layer of the mucous membrane. The man had previously been taken to the Republican Clinical Emergency Hospital, but the doctors there were unable to provide due assistance.

The ophthalmologists at Bulach Hospital performed local anesthesia and carefully removed the worms, followed by treating the eye for infection. "Thankfully, the treatment was provided in time and we managed to save his vision" - Naida Goitieva, head of the eye trauma department says. As doctor added that the patient is now feeling well.
