Surge in COVID-19 incidence recorded in Dagestan

The incidence of COVID-19 in Dagestan has doubled over the past week. As to the regional physicians the disease runs in a mild form. From August 28 to September 3, 79 new cases of the disease were laboratory-confirmed in Dagestan, twice as many as the previous week, when 37 cases were detected.

"COVID-19 has become a habitual disease with a certain cyclicity associated with the immune structure of the population and the emergence of new strains" - Republican Department of Rospotrebnadzor (Russian consumer protection watchdog).

One of the main reasons for the sharp increase in the number of cases of the disease in Dagestan could be the low vaccination rate among the local population. Despite numerous vaccination campaigns, many people in the region are still unprotected against the virus. Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Dagestan, it is essential to take this negative trend seriously and take immediate measures to control the spread of the disease – experts say.
