Boxer Radjab Butaev still fighting for Olympics

Makhachkala, February 10, 2015. Russian champion-2014, Dagestani boxer Radjab Butaev won another qualifying bout for the Olympic Games at the team tournament of the World Series of Boxing (WSB), the athlete’s coach Akhmed Zhanaev reports. The Russian national team showed a landslide 5:0 victory over the Mexico team on February 7 in Samara, Russia.

"All our five boxers won their fights. Radjab in the 69 kg weight won Cabrero Marvin Vergar by a unanimous decision. Vergar is one of the leaders of the Mexican team. In his duel with the Mexican, Radjab followed all the coach’s directions, winning loud and clear,"- A. Zhanaev said.

On February 21, Butaev will have the third fight within the WSB tournament. After the contest with the Mexicans, Russian boxers flew to Moscow to start preparing for the fights with Ukrainian boxers scheduled to run February 21 in Volgograd or in Rostov-on-Don.

January 23, visiting Russians beat the Chinese team 4: 1in the first WSB match of the season. January 30, in Havana, they were defeated by Cubans 0: 5. Radjab Butaev performed only in China defeating local Liu Wei.

The WSB tournament is attended by 16 teams from various countries. The WSB individual rating will determine 17 Olympic participants in 10 weights after the group stage.
