Dagestani Ismail Mussukaev wins European championship in three wrestling styles
Walbrzych, Poland, March 26, 2015. Dagestani Ismail Mussukaev won the European championship in three wrestling styles that started yesterday in Walbrzych, Poland, with the free-style wrestling contest, wrestdag.ru reports.
On the first day of the tournament, 75 athletes competed in 57, 65, 74 and 97 kg weights, and the Russian team showed a slow pace with one gold and two bronze medals. Khasaviurt’s Ismail Mussukaev was the only one here to have won all his bouts in the 57 kg weight.
Mussukaev came to Poland as a favorite, so when he beat the winner of the Intercontinental cup-2013 Georgian Beku Budzhiashvili 10: 0 in the second bout, it was clear he would be tremendously hard to stop. Only Azerbaijani Merdzhalal Gassanzadeh could resist the Dagestani athlete in the semifinals (7: 5); the two previous fights with Belarusian Dmitry Rinchinov and Bulgarian Georgi Vangelovym were early wins for Mussukaev.
Russia’s bronze medals were provided by Evgeniy Zherbaev (61 kg) and Mahachka’s Zainul Kurbanov (97 kg), who performed three early wins but lost in the quarterfinals.
