Dagestan Authorities Discusses Workforce Training Priorities to Meet Regional Economic Needs

MAKHACHKALA, May 21 – RIA Dagestan. Acting Head of Dagestan Fedor Shchukin chaired a meeting on workforce training for the regional economy, focusing on implementation of presidential directives from a recent State Council meeting. State Secretary Nyusret Omarov reported on progress, including the establishment of a regional working group and development of a workforce forecast through 2032 to guide state-funded admission quotas in educational institutions.

Dagestan has proposed refining the methodology for assessing educational institutions to account for employment speed, field-of-study alignment and salary levels relative to the regional average. The republic currently has approximately 100 investment projects capable of creating 28,000 jobs, while analysis of 66 systemically important enterprises revealed demand for 810 specialists in 2025 and 3,500 over the next seven years. As to Acting Minister of Economic Development Adilkhan Akhmedov, Dagestan requires approximately 1.3 million workers this year, with replacement demand exceeding 18,000—particularly in caregiving, medicine, mechanics, education and agricultural equipment operation.

The meeting highlighted the importance of advanced career guidance practices, including use of the All-Russian Employer Survey to coordinate targeted work with employment centers under the "Work in Russia" program. Dagestan implements a "seamless" workforce training system integrating production and education at three leading industrial enterprises—Kizlyar Electrical Apparatus Plant, KEMZ Concern and Dagdizel Plant—as part of the federal project "Professionalitet". Summing up the session, Shchukin called on all ministries to conduct more thorough analysis of workforce needs, emphasizing the goal of enabling local talent to realize their potential within the region.
