MAKHACHKALA, June 15 – RIA Dagestan. The 13th Conference of the North Caucasian Parliamentary Association is taking place in Dagestan, with the events beginning with an introductory trip to Derbent, a city that ranks among the oldest in Russia. The choice to convene the congress on Dagestani territory was supported unanimously by the association's members at the preceding plenary meeting.
As part of the cultural and historical program, lawmakers from the country's southern regions visited the Naryn-Kala architectural and archaeological complex, walked through the city's ancient quarters known as magalas and toured the Juma Mosque, which is recognized as the oldest Muslim temple in Russia and the CIS.
The North Caucasian Parliamentary Association (NCPA) is an authoritative inter-parliamentary platform for developing consolidated legislative decisions. The association comprises the supreme legislative bodies of seven constituent entities of the Russian Federation: Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia–Alania, the Chechen Republic and Stavropol Krai.
The plenary session of the conference is expected to address a wide spectrum of issues related to the refinement of federal and regional legislation governing social policy, tourism, entrepreneurship and youth policy. Zaur Askenderov, Chairman of the People's Assembly of Dagestan, emphasized the considerable significance of the congress for the republic. The top official noted that it was an honor to host colleagues from the North Caucasian Parliamentary Association and that their joint task was to strengthen mutual support and introduce fresh, effective initiatives into their shared work, thereby fostering the progressive socio-economic development of the North Caucasus regions.
