Makhachkala, December 21, 2015. New vineyards with an area of 1,405 thousand hectares will be planted in Dagestan in autumn 2016. This is about half of the total volume of plantings in Russia, the republican Ministry of Agriculture and Food reports.

The agency official noted that in recent years, Dagestan authorities did much for the recovery of viticulture, which is traditional for the region's industry. In spring of 2015 there were planted 635 hectares. In autumn the area of planting will reach 1,405 thousand hectares.

According to the deputy Minister Gaidar Shuaybov Dagestan won the first place in planting vineyards in 2014. This year, the region also counts on the leadership. It is assumed that the Republic of Dagestan planted 75-80% of the total area of vineyards in Russia.

"This was made possible largely thanks to the introduction of cluster model of development of the industry, according to which the wine-making enterprises worked to create its own resource base" - by the official confessed. Shuaybov explained that big agro industrial holdings with the participation of major manufacturers of alcoholic beverages, including Derbent cognac plant, Derbent factory of sparkling wines, Kizlyar cognac factory and others are under formation in the republic.
