Capacity of Chirkey HPP to be increased by 100 MW

According to the press service of the regional Ministry of Energy, work is currently underway on the replacement of Hydroelectric Unit No. 2 as part of the investment project "Technical Re-equipment of Hydro Turbines No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 and Hydro Generators No. 1, 2, 3, 4 at Chirkey Hydroelectric Power Plant".

The specialists of Dagestan branch of JSC RusHydro have already dismantled the existing hydro generator and hydro turbine equipment and completed the assembly of the turbine casing, lower part, and adjusting rings of the guide vanes.

“At present, the technical water supply system and the high-pressure pneumatic system are being dismantled, preparatory works for the installation of the generator stator are being carried out, the oil pressure units are being assembled, the aggregated assembly of the hydro generator rotor is being carried out, etc.," the ministry official says.
As part of the complex reconstruction of the Chirkey Hydroelectric Power Station, it is planned to rebuild four hydroelectric units. As a result, its capacity will increase by 100 megawatts.

Specialists will completely replace hydroturbine and hydrogenerator equipment, as well as their auxiliary systems. They will also perform an instrumental examination of the flow parts and embedded elements of the hydroelectric units that are not subject to replacement. The commissioning of Hydro Unit No. 2 at the Chirkey HPP, with an increased capacity of 275 megawatts, is planned for January 2025.
