Cargo transshipment in the commercial seaport of Makhachkala has increased by 3% in the first five months of 2024, with a total volume of 1,179,000 tons handled. This is an increase from the previous year's total volume of 1,145,000 tons during the same period.

Dry cargo saw a 27.2% increase, while liquid cargo saw a slight decrease. The dominant cargo types included oil and petroleum products, grain, cement and mineral fertilizers.

Fishery products also saw growth. The main drivers of this growth were increases in grain transshipment and fishery product shipments, as well as an increase in cement deliveries.
