A travelling exhibition of count Grigory Gagarin's graphic works titled "Costumes of the Caucasus" organized by Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P.S. Gamzatova is currently on display on M. Gorky Street in Makhachkala.
The unique album "Costumes of the Caucasus", published in Paris in the 1840s, consists of 36 color lithographs and allows visitors to see what the Caucasus region looked like 170 years ago. The exhibition presents the national costumes of Dagestani, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Kabardian and other local residents.
Apart from the traveling exhibition, the museum held a children's master class titled "Drawing Traditional Costumes of Dagestani Peoples". Under the guidance of graphic artist Jannat Gadjiyeva, children practice drawing and create images of highland people or women from the past. They use simple and colored pencils, felt-tip pens, gouache and watercolors.
A fair of museum books and souvenirs is also organized for the visitors of the exhibition. All the cultural and educational events are part of the Big Family Weekend project.
