This has been announced by the Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Dagestan Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov at the Caucasus Investment Forum during a round table on the development of mountainous areas.

According to Abdulmuslimov, last year the Republic of Dagestan took an initiative to create a center of mountain research on the basis of Dagestan Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

On the basis of the results of the International Forum "Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas" held in St. Petersburg last year, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation received recommendations to consider the possibility of creating such a center.

The purpose of the center is to conduct basic research on mountain-related issues in all regions of Russia, by concentrating the efforts of the scientific community. The results of this research should form the basis for the country's and the regions' mountain policies, as noted by the Prime Minister.
“Dagestan has a wealth of scientific knowledge and human potential in the field of mountain research. We hope that our proposals will be supported by the federal Ministry of Education and Science and that such a center will be established in our region soon” – Dagestani prime minister said.
