To improve the efficiency of fighting forest fires in Dagestan, RUB 78 million will be spent on a video surveillance system. The cameras will provide a 360-degree view around the clock and will be able to detect smoke and heat hotspots up to 15 kilometers away in good weather.
Information on identified hotspots will be transmitted in real time to the regional Emergency Situations Ministry and the Unified Regional Forestry Dispatch Service. The system will make it possible to pinpoint the exact location of hot spots and ensure a rapid response.
Apart from the installation of cameras, further purchases of fire-fighting equipment are planned as part of the national 'Environmental Wellbeing' project.
