President Vladimir Putin has signed a law banning advertising on the information resources of foreign agents. It is also forbidden to advertise on the information resources of foreign agents. The State Duma deputies adopted the bill at the end of February. It was drafted by 395 deputies led by Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and leaders of all parliamentary factions except the New People. The Federation Council approved the initiative last Wednesday.

The amendments will be made to the laws "On control over the activities of persons under foreign influence", "On advertising" and "On mass media". The authors of the initiative said in the explanatory note that it was aimed at countering covert foreign interference in the internal affairs of the state.

According to State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, in 2023 more than 200 Russian individuals and legal entities placed advertisements with foreign agents, earning them hundreds of millions of rubles.
