According to results of 2023, Dagestan took the first place among all regions of Russia in terms of birth rate and life expectancy, the deputy Prime Minister of the Republic Abdurakhman Makhmudov reported at the regular meeting of the Coordination Council for Public Health.

The Coordinating Council for Public Health and the Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention in the region work together to promote a culture of healthy living, early detection and treatment of non-communicable diseases. Various community health programs are being implemented in cities and municipal districts of Dagestan.

According to the Public Health Minister of Dagestan Tatyana Belyaeva, in 2023 the overall mortality rate in the republic decreased by 11.8% compared to the same period in 2022 and amounted to 4.5%.

"At the same time, we still have a number of problems in providing quality medical care. We must take all measures to motivate the population to lead a healthy lifestyle, pay attention to the coverage and quality of medical examination of population, especially in mountainous areas" – Makhmudov is quoted as saying.
