Dagestani athlete wins world taekwondo championship for Azerbaijan

Chelyabinsk, Chelyabinsk region, May 19, 2015.Dagestani Radik Issayev won the gold medal of the world taekwondo championships in the 87 kg weight for the Azerbaijani national team, azerisport.com reports. The tournament is taking place in Chelyabinsk, Russia, on May 12-19.
On his way to the gold medal, he had to defeat athletes from Bangladesh, Taiwan, France, Cuba, and in the final he won Uzbekistani Djasura Baikuzieva 5:4. Here, the bronze medals went to Russian champion Vladislav Larin and Cuban Rafael Castillo.
Radik Issayev is a native of Ukhul village, Akhty region, Dagestan. He has been representing Azerbaijan for more than three years. Before changing the nationality, he won the Russian championship and the national cup. This is the first time he has won the world title. Previously, the 25-year-old Dagestani had become the European champion and bronze medalist of the world championship.
