Makhachkala, March 5, 2014. Magomed Kazhlaev’s retrospective exhibition "500 meters of freestyle" opened Tuesday, March 4, at the Makhachkala History Museum.

According to the museum director Zarema Dadaeva, today's exhibition is a very big event. "Magomed Kazhlaev is an outstanding Daghestan artist with a unique brush, a specific vision of the world, his own understanding of the processes surrounding him. This is the unique, so typically Kazhlaev’s view on everything around,"- she said.

The exhibition features the artist’s paintings and drawings. Watching the exposure, one can see the different periods of his life and work.

"Speaking about Magomed Kazhlaev, I can say that he does quite a tremendous job to promote Daghestani art outside Daghestan. He is in close collaboration with the Permanent Daghestan Mission at the Russian President. He has repeatedly curated some brilliant exhibitions in Moscow. Magomed Kazhlaev is the man to have given Daghestan a unique "Circle" album about 9 Daghestani artists. He’s done a great deal to let the album see the world.

Kazhlaev pays a lot of attention to the memory of our older artists. He’s facilitated opening of an exhibition of old Daghestan artist Omar Efimov in Makhachkala and Moscow. He’s helped publish a catalogue dedicated to the memory of the remarkable artist who is unfortunately little known in Daghestan having long lived outside it", - Dadaeva said.

Magomed Kazhlaev said that for him, this exhibition is a link to the homeland. "For me, it's a kind of a report, a good reason to visit Daghestan, see my relatives, and work. That’s a retrospective of my works from the earlier to the late minimalist ones,"- Kazhlaev said.
