The first regular cargo ship for the transportation of containers between Turkmenbashi and Makhachkala is planned to be launched by the end of 2023. This was announced by the trade representative of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan Alexander Elizarov. According to Elizarov, the last time a ferry service between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Makhachkala existed in 2011-2012. “Makhachkala is the only way for us to further develop transport links,” Elizarov says. Earlier it was noted that the trade turnover between Dagestan and Turkmenistan in 2022 compared to 2021 increased by 5% (imports - by 80%).
