Dagestan authorities asked the members of the Economic Policy Committee of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to support project for the construction of a 14 km long section of the federal highway bypassing Makhachkala. On Tuesday, the Acting Minister of Transport and Roads of the region, Shirukhan Gadzhimuradov presented the project within the framework of the Days of the Republic of Dagestan held in the Federation Council on March 1 - 3.

“The transit transport passing through Makhachkala consists of a large number of trucks, including those carrying out international transportation along the North-South transport corridor. This circumstance, along with a large environmental load, negatively affects the transport city street road network.

It is proposed to build a new section of a four-lane road with a length of 14 km of technical category 1B as a bridge between the two federal roads "Caspian" and "Kavkaz" - Gadzhimuradov said. According to the top official, the average daily traffic intensity on the new section of the road will make approx. 27 thousand vehicles per day. The estimated cost of the construction totals 13 billion rubles. “At this stage, we ask to start over with designing the northern bypass of the city of Makhachkala in 2022 so that by the end of the work on the bypasses of Derbent and Khasavyurt, the production facilities involved in these projects could be rationally switched to the new similar project” - the Gadzhimuradov pointed out.

As to the Acting Head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov, the implementation of the project will be important for the development of international transportation and will reduce car accidents. The section of the Kavkaz road to the border with Azerbaijan is the main transport artery of Dagestan, which is the most emergency in the region. “The importance of this road will only grow, but its capacity is growing extremely slowly. We ask you to support our project in Makhachkala, because this is the starting position in the creation of bypass routes around our cities” - Melikov said.
