The representatives of Iran have proposed to launch a direct flight between Makhachkala and Tehran. As to the Head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov, this year the republic had already received two transport planes from Iran "as a trial transfer".

"We work out the issue of direct flights with Makhachkala airport and analyze the demand for certain cargoes that are interesting to both sides. Nowadays, we reconstruct the air terminal, build a runway, which will open new opportunities not only for passenger, but for cargo transportation" - Melikov said.
At the moment Makhachkala air harbor receives foreign flights from Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

It was planned that planes from Georgia would fly to the capital of Dagestan, but according to Tamaz Gaiashvili, the chairman of the board of directors of Georgian Airway, the Georgian airline has no plans to operate such flights this year. The work on opening air service between Makhachkala and Tbilisi has been suspended for the time being.
