Mir payment system to operate in Iran in about six months

Russia's Mir payment system is currently undergoing integration with Iran's Shetab, and it is expected to become operational in the country within the next six months. This was announced by Kazem Jalali, the Iranian Ambassador to Russia, during a media briefing on the sidelines of the BRICS Media Summit.

Jalali stated that they are currently working to adapt the two payment systems and that Shetab currently operates in the testing mode. Jalali expressed confidence that the Mir payment system would be available to Iranian users within approximately six months.
About the BRICS Media Summit

The BRICS Media Summit is held in Moscow on September 13-17, bringing together heads and leading representatives of more than 60 media organizations from 45 countries. The event takes place at the World Trade Center and is organized by TASS, which celebrates its 120th anniversary this September. This year, the Media Summit marks the introduction of a new format for the BRICS Media Forum - a non-profit, non-governmental platform for dialogue among leading media organizations from the BRICS countries.

The Media Forum was founded in 2015 by Xinhua and has since been held under the leadership of the BRICS, with Russia assuming the role of president from January 1st, 2024. Rose congress Foundation is the organizer of the BRICS presidency events.
