A roundtable discussion titled "Dagestan Tourism: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" with participation of representatives of the regional government has been held within the framework of the Economic Forum "Economy of Dagestan: Potential and Vectors of Development". The meeting participants focused on discussing the current state, prospects and main directions for tourism development in Dagestan, as well as the methodology for calculating tourist flows and the legalization of the tourism industry.

In the greeting speech, the moderator of the round table, the Chairwoman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Tourism and Folk Crafts of the Republic of Dagestan Zyulmira Khanbabaeva pointed out that the purpose of the event was to explore the characteristics of the tourist season and identify current trends in tourism development.

One of the speakers presented a report on the history of tourism development during economic recessions and recoveries, as well as the increase in tourist flows and the overall impact of tourism on the economy. As explained, over the past three years, the number of tourists visiting the republic increased more than twofold and may reach 1.75 million by the end of the year, compared to only 840-850 thousand in 2019 and 2020.

At the meeting, the issues related to the development of air routes, the infrastructure of Makhachkala Airport, the tourist services market and the legalization of the tourism industry were also discussed.
