For the past 10 years, about 700 million fish of various species have been released into the waters of Dagestan in order to preserve biological resources as part of the national project "Ecology". For instance, in the Terek River and its tributaries alone, more than 2.3 million sturgeon specimens, over 720 thousand particle fish and more than 5.5 million Caspian salmon juveniles have been released. Every year, measures are taken to promote the popularity of fishing.

Besides, this year, another 100,000 young Russian sturgeons are planned to be released into the Caspian Sea and inland waters of Dagestan. These fish will be raised under natural conditions at a fish farm in the region. Active work is also underway to enforce compensation for damage to aquatic biological resources caused by violations of environmental laws. So far, for the current year, state inspectors have identified 102 violations related to sand mining in the protected area of the Caspian Sea.

The national project "Ecology" aims to improve waste management efficiency, significantly reduce air pollution in major industrial areas and preserve Russia's unique flora and fauna. These goals will be achieved through the implementation of the national projects, which had been initiated by the Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2019.
