Makhachkala, May 9, 2019. The provision of direct air service between Makhachkala and one of the airports in Israel has been discussed at the meeting of Derbent city administration officials with the delegation from Israeli Hadera, which is the sister city of the ancient city of Russia.
On his Instagram page, the mayor of Derbent, Khizri Abakarov, informed that on Wednesday, May 8, “the deputy mayor of the Israeli city of Hadera Nathan Liviev arrived in Dagestan with his wife. Since 2006, Hadera and Derbent are sister cities. This is not surprising: 15 out of 105 thousand residents of Hadera come from Derbent. I met the guests of honor at the airport, then we had a thorough talk in Derbent. Every year, the groups of tourists from Israel visit Derbent. They are happy to visit the places of their childhood, the graves of their ancestors, to communicate with their old friends. The way to Derbent from Israel is very difficult. Nathan said he spent more than 10 hours to get to Dagestan. We had an idea to initiate direct flights between the airport of Makhachkala and one of the air ports of Israel. For my part, I will discuss this issue with the leadership of Makhachkala International Airport. Natan Liviev, in turn, promised to negotiate on this topic with the Israeli Minister of Transport.”
Abakarov noted that the parties had agreed on broad cooperation in various fields, adding that his Israeli "colleagues are ready to share experience, to train our specialists."
Besides, the head of Derbent announced the arrival of the city Council deputy responsible for the external relations Sderot Khava Nakhshunov in Dagestan.
The delegation from Israel has taken part in the celebratory events on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
