121 out of 207 substations of 35-110 kV operated by Dagenergo are overloaded. This has been stated by the head of the regional Ministry of Energy Marat Shikhaliyev. As to the top official, the capacity deficit is more than 450 MW, which is 15% of the total republic’s consumption.

At present, the increase in consumption and the shortage of new capacities lead to overloading of the existing power centers. There is also a high level of wear and tear of power grid equipment at these facilities: 75% of transmission lines and 85% of power supply centers, which is significantly higher than the national average (55%).

At the same time, electricity consumption in the Republic of Dagestan has been steadily growing from year to year, while own generation meets the republic's electricity demand only by 57% (in 2022 it was 63%). The total growth over the last three years amounted to 25%.
