Ice climbers from all over Russia arrive in Dagestan for festival

The frozen waterfall in Khunzakhski municipal district has become a destination for extreme mountaineers fr om across the country, attracting attention as the site of the IX Ice Climbing Festival "Matlas 2025".

Over the course of three days, participants engaged in both team and individual competitions. The geographical scope of the event continues to expand, with athletes hailing from Astrakhan, Moscow, Pyatigorsk and Kirov, all converging in Dagestan to participate in Matlas event.

The participants faced the challenge of navigating a difficult cascade on the waterfall, wh ere they had to conquer a total of 75 meters of ice blocks, aiming for swiftness in reaching the summit. The ultimate victors in the super final were Kurbanmagomed Abdulgalimov and Adler Mizhev, both natives of Dagestan, and Mikhail Melnikov, representing Kirov.
