Makhachkala, October 17, 2014. Russian MMA fighter Omari Akhmedov is supposed to have his third UFC fight on January 3 at a UFC 182 tournament in Las Vegas.
Daghestani athlete will oppose 30-year-old Swedish Mats Nilsson who’s made his debut in the world's major fighter's organization earlier this year, when he was knocked out by Luke Barnatt on the 4th minute of the first round.
"It’s been over 2 months since I came to Albuquerque, USA, to prepare for the fight of January 3 in Greg Jackson’s gym. My opponent is Sweden’s Mats Nilsson. I saw a couple of his fights, and I think his style suits me fine since he prefers attack. Interestingly, earlier, UFC offered me only top fighters although I’m the hundredth in the ranking I guess," Akhmedov commented his comeback to bloodandsweat.ru.
Akhmedov first appeared in the octagon in Brazil November 9, 2013, where he fought against local Thiago ‘Bodao’ Perpetuo. Omari started from bearing a number of knockdowns from the Brazilian, but finished with knocking his opponent out earning the bonus for the "Fight of the Night."
In his second UFC fight, Akhmedov was defeated by Iceland’s Gunnar Nelson. That was his latest appearance in the cage in London on March 9 at the UFC Fight Night 38 tournament. Intriguingly, Akhmedov has a 4-fight contract with UFC.
