The construction of Russia's largest solar power plant, Derbent SES, has begun in the southern region of Dagestan. With a capacity of 100 megawatts (MW), the plant will become an additional important facility in the country's renewable energy infrastructure. Invested by New Energy, the company behind the project, the plant will require an investment of more than 7 billion rubles. It will be located near the village of Avadan, 10 kilometers from the city of Derbent, covering an area of 305 hectares.
Over 190,000 double-sided solar modules produced in Russia will be installed at the site, and more than 800 kilometers of underground cables will be laid. The project is expected to create 25 full-time jobs and up to 200 temporary positions during construction.
Annual tax contributions to the regional budget are projected to amount to approx. RUB 60 million. The plant is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, with electricity generated from this facility expected to be sold on the wholesale market starting in 2026.
