As to the press service of the Centre for Agro-Analytics, the total number of sheep and goats in farms of all types in the Republic of Dagestan amounts to 4,742,100 heads by the end of 2024. This represents a decrease of 2.3% compared to the previous year. Despite this decline, Dagestan continues to lead in sheep breeding in Russia, accounting for more than a quarter of the national sheep population.

In terms of cattle, Dagestan farms maintained 930,400 head at the end of the year, representing a slight decrease of 1%.  It is worth noting that the population of cows in Dagestan amounted to 483,000, representing a decrease of 0.7% compared to the previous year.

As for the avian population in the region, it reached 4,138,300 heads by the end of the year, representing an increase of 0.1%.
