On December 1, at the final sitting of the organizing committee on preparation of R. Gamzatov's 100th anniversary, the head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov came up with an initiative to celebrate the 155th anniversary of the great poet of the Republic of Dagestan Suleiman Stalsky in 2024.

Melikov called Suleiman Stalsky the brightest figure of Dagestani poetry. Maxim Gorky, Mikhail Sholokhov, Boris Pasternak, Nikolai Tikhonov, Samed Vurgun, Alexei Tolstoy, Yanka Kupala, Dzhambul Dzhabaev, Osman Saryveli, Yakub Kolos, Alexei Surkov and many other Soviet and foreign writers wrote admiringly about the bottomless poetic talent of the "Homer of the XX century", the scale of his figure.

The Lezgi poet's verses were translated into many languages of the world, some of them set to music and performed by popular artists, Dagestani head reminded. Sergei Melikov instructed to create a special working group to organize events dedicated to the remarkable dates. A separate instruction was given to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Dagestan to submit proposals for celebrating the 155th anniversary of the national poet.
