The prime minister of Dagestan Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov has submitted a request to the Minister for Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov with an appeal to allocate funds for the construction of a dam and water barrier shafts on the Terek River.
In his appeal, Abdulmuslimov noted that the project envisages the construction of a channel-straightening dam and water protection walls on the left bank of the river, and its preliminary cost exceeds RUB 900 million.
As to the regional premier, the danger of breaching the existing water protection embankments on the river has increased. As a result of heavy rainfall in July and August, the water level of the Chirag-Chai, Gelkhen, Kurakh, Rukh, Samur and Dzhilikhur rivers has risen significantly, which created an emergency situation in several districts of Dagestan.
As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that a group of specialists fr om the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources would visit the republic in mid-October to study and evaluate the situation in settlements wh ere bank protection measures are necessary.
